Mani Monday – Ombre

Ombre – looks complex, really isn’t. Here is a quick step-by-step tutorial for you to follow, to help you achieve the look. Remember you don’t have to stick to the colours I chose either, if you blend different shades of the same colour it tends to be easier to start with.

For this look I used four different nail polishes ( Barry M Green Berry, BlueBerry, Pomegranate and Rimmel Strawberry Fizz), a glitter polish (Rimmel 002 Disco Gold), a small brush and a sponge. If you do not have a small brush you can use a cotton bud and sponges can be found really cheap in the pound shop.

To start off paint your colours one solid base colour, I decided to do mine in Barry M Gelly – Green Berry.

Once the polish has dried then paint small lines slightly overlapping on your sponge in your other colours, I did the darkest colour last. You may need to put quite a lot on the sponge as it is quickly absorbed. Remember don’t paint the lines to thick as they have to all fit on to your nail in order to create a gradient.

Then lightly sponge the colours on to your nail, leaving a small gap at the top near your cuticle so you can see the base colour. If you have any obvious lines don’t worry, don’t try to keep going over it you will just pull of the polish or dirty the colours.

You will find you have quite a bit of mess around your nails but just take your small nail brush, or alternatively a cotton swab and clean up the edges.

You should find you only need to sponge the colours on once, then a little trick if you can see the lines is put a coat of light glitter polish over the top, it  blurs out the lines and gives you a lovely shimmery ombre. Here is the finished look. Remember practice makes perfect!
