Monthly Subscription – Ipsy Glam Bag

Ipsy Glam Bag, set up by one of the most popular ‘Beauty Gurus’ on YouTube, Michelle Phan is probably my favourite beauty monthly subscription I have ever received. Now this review is a little late as I am reviewing Septembers glam bag, but hey, if it was on time that just wouldn’t be me;)

As I am moving back to England in a few weeks, sadly I have only had two Glam Bags before having to cancel my subscription, so I can only judge based on those two but did thoroughly enjoy both bags.

Although I love the boxes Glossybox and Birchbox put their monthly products in (particularly GlossyBox), the Ipsy Glam Bag comes in an actual makeup bag. So rather me having a stack of cute boxes that I keep (as I feel obliged to reuse them as something but rarely do), the makeup bag that I get from Ipsy is much more practical. I also look forward to seeing what kind of makeup bag Im going to receive all the lovely products in each month, adding to its appeal.

The Glam Bag is $10 a month which puts it on the same sort of level as Birchbox for price, definitely one of the more affordable monthly subscriptions. You get a mixture of full size and deluxe size samples and the actual value of the products you receive definitely outweighs the small subscription fee. Now like I said I have only had two of these bags but if you go onto the Ipsy website you can see what all the previous months bags have been like and looking through them all I can’t see any month where I feel like I would have been disappointed. The products that they put in truly are deluxe samples if they aren’t full size, unlike a lot of other boxes where you get lots of packet samples that you end up just putting in a drawer and never using. If like me you are hooked on watching youtube beauty gurus, you will note that lots of the products they talk about or mention are in this bag for you to test out with lots of  well known brands. You are also able to buy the full size products from the Ipsy website usually with some sort of discount.

The products you get in your bag do slightly vary person to person and you take a short quiz before signing up so that the box can be better tailored to you and what you like before your ‘glam room’ is revealed.

I honestly cannot talk highly enough of this subscription I have just loved both bags I have received, enjoyed the products and I was sad when I had to unsubscribe! So without further ado let me show you my September Ipsy Glam Bag

Firstly of all can we just appreciate the pink bubble wrap manila envelope that it comes in, it is so nice! I get so excited when I see the shiney pink parcel sat in my mail box.

So here is the lovely little makeup bag and all the products I received in my September Glam Bag.

Nyx Velvet Suede Eyeshadow -When I first saw this I will admit I was a little put off by the colour, not something I would go for at all. Not sure about you  but whenever I see blue anything to do with eyes I think of the 80’s and feel like it hasn’t and shouldn’t make a comeback. But anyway since I have it I swatched it and it isn’t actually very pigmented. Its very light with a lovely amount of sparkle in it. You can definitely build up the colour, but personally I imagine it complementing a nice purple autumn smokey eye, adding just a hint of sparkle in the center of my lid.

It’s So Big Volumizing Mascara –  The brush on this mascara is very unusual in sort of a hourglass shape is coats your lashes amazingly, doesn’t clump, lengths and creates a fuller look. I especially loved how it transferred and made my bottom lashes look, I think the bottom lashes are the hardest to keep looking natural and full and this really did a good job. I’d say for me it is more of a daytime mascara, keeping things looking very natural and not too full on, and it did a good job of staying put the whole day.

John Frieda Full Repair Shampoo & Conditioner – I haven’t used these products yet as I am actually saving them for when I go travelling as they are perfect size. But what I will say is I love the packaging, they smell great and I am looking forward to using them. I was also happy to receive the deluxe size sample of this shampoo along with the conditioner as I HATE those silly packets that you can never get open when your hands are wet in the shower!

Starlooks Khol Eye Pencil in Obsidian -This eye pencil is a highly pigmented black matte that is extremely soft and glides on. This is always a good thing because you don’t want to be pulling on your lids, pressing or repeatedly going over with a pencil as it can irritate the eyes, and lead to premature wrinkles. I have extremely watery eyes so this pencil wouldn’t be good as a liner for me as it does move a lot but it works very well for smoking as it is so soft.

Those were all the products I received in my September Ipsy Glam Bag, very happy with everything and especially happy with my new little makeup bag. I should add that if you wish to subscribe to Ipsy Glam Bag that you do have to join a waiting list, which is what I did and I had to wait around a month. It was definitely worth the wait and if I wasn’t moving I would not have given up my spot!

xo Emma.

Is there like a fee you have to pay before getting the subscription for the bag?
Or you just pay $10 per month

    • Hey Justine,

No you literally just pay the $10 a month, I really cannot recommend it enough. You do have to sign up and wait a while to be chosen to receive the bag but I can’t remember it being too long that I had to wait. I have tried a lot of subscriptions and this is the best I have ever had. I wish they did it in the UK. I saw this month people even got Rebecca Minkoff beauty bags with their products in! If you have anymore questions just let me know :)
