Product Review – GlossyBox USA

I had heard of Glossy Box a couple of years ago when I was still in England and actually it was the first beauty subscription box I had ever heard of. So when I came to America my husband found BirchBox for me as I was going on about this GlossyBox and I never really thought about it again.

Well now there are all kinds of boxes for whatever you are into and I love getting ‘one offs’ and trying them all out. This month my lovely husband got me a Glossy Box, so finally after two years I am getting to try it out! Hurrah! 10 Husband Points.

So first things first, I LOVE the packaging, I use cute little boxes like this all the time to store things and especially to post things home, so I appreciate the good packaging. When I first open the box the products a delicately wrapped in gorgeous Christmassy paper (Which I will also be saving), and tied with a pretty red bow. There is a guide on top of all the products included, but I always look at this last as I like to delve in and everything I pull out is a surprise. There is also a GlossyBox magazine – oooh very posh.

General overview of the box I can see there is a good mixture of full size and sample size products, there seems to be a variation with type of products and I can identify some brands I recognize and some new ones.

Now onto what I’ve actually got!

Oscar Blandi – Dry Styling Heat Protect Spray – I have used this brand before and I like it and I am always looking to try out new heat protecting products. I use my GHD’s almost everyday so my hair needs all the protecting it can get!

Wella Velvet Amplifier – So of course I have obviously heard of Wella and used products before. However not since the late 90’s when I would use my mums products! This little sample packet seems interesting. It is apparently like a primer for your hair allowing you to style your hair however you like improving manageability and control. Actually really excited to try this, I have never heard of a hair primer and I could use to help keeping my hair under control!

OC 8 – Professional Mattifying Gel – Never heard of this brand, its packaged to look like medicinal creams I’ve had before. Not sure if that’s good or bad! It’s a pretty decent size (1.6oz/45g) so there is definitely enough for me to use it for a while and see if it does what it says on the bottle, which by the way, is even out skin tone and reduce shine. When I swatched it on my hand it felt nice and smooth and had the consistency of a makeup primer so I can see how it would give a matt finish. The smell is kind of off putting, smells like waxing salon. I’m interested though – I’ll give it a whirl.

Issey Miyake Pleats Please – Eau De Toilette – Beauty boxes can never go wrong with a good perfume sample! I love Issey Miyake sents, this one smells fresh and floral, perfect for the spring. Lovely Jubbly.

Modelco Lip Duo – Lipstick & Ultra Shine Lip Gloss – The colours are perfect for my complexion, I tried it on and it is definitely something I would wear. The only issue I have with this product is the design of it. It comes with a mirror on the side, however you can’t use the mirror whilst applying any of the product as its on the applicator part which makes it futile – bit of a design flop there.

JewelMint – Necklace – Oh my gosh, I pulled this out last as I didn’t notice it is due to it coming in a black velvet back so it blended in with the paper. I got a gorgeous gold, mid length necklace with purple, blue and pink gems with little faux pearls. Very pleased with this, you can never have enough jewelry!

I have absolutely LOVED my GlossyBox, all the products I received are wonderful and I am definitely going to be using them. It is a little bit pricier than a BirchBox costing around $21 a month but I would recommend it. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I am now a monthly subscriber *ahem Mr Glam!*

  1. Hi Emma!

I love your box! You got a gorgeous necklace! Also, the OC8 Professional Mattifying Gel is supposed to be very good! And you got a lipstick/lipgloss duo! Those are so convenient! Can’t wait for our January boxes to come in!

    Xoxo,
    Dahnie Coco

    • Hi Dahnie,

Yes I did get a very good box, I’ve worn my necklace a lot & the OC8 Gel is very good. I use that a lot too:)

Hope to see you back on my blog soon:)

      Xo Emma.

  2. The Jewelmint Necklace is called Muse. I bought it awhile ago from Jewelmint and love it. I got the Midas ring which I’m not a fan of and it’s too small. I love the other stuff though.

  3. Does everyone get completely different stuff or is it all quite similar/the same? Also, do you think the American and English boxes would be really different with brands and things? I’ve got the 3 month subscription coming!!! I was looking for storage boxes so naturally, this just seemed like the perfect opportunity to treat myself to beauty products…

    • Yes, there are a number of different boxes that people get and they are somewhat tailored to yourself via the little quiz you took upon registering for the box. I am not sure how different the boxes vary in the countries, but I am sure they do use different things. I hope you enjoy your new monthly treats!
