Worth The Hype Wednesday #WTHW

A few weeks a go I purchased the Zoeva Rose Golden Luxury set of 8 professional make up brushes. I feel that I’ve had the brushes long enough now to give a well rounded review, so here goes, are they worth the hype?

I ordered the set online and it cost £49.00 for the brushes and £7.00 for delivery (the reason the delivery was so pricey is because they are made and shipped [worldwide] from Germany). I’d say they are a little on the expensive side for make up brushes, in my opinion, but when I saw the Rose Gold set I couldn’t resist and thought that the set had a really good mix of brushes that covered all areas of makeup application and I was happy I could achieve a full look only using this set – aka I just wanted them because they looked pretty and there was lots of them, OK. After placing my order they came within 4 days so didn’t have to wait long at all to get my hands on them!

They come in a luxurious soft brown leather pouch with rose gold hardware and an internal zip pocket, that even comes with its own dust bag to protect it. Although I love the bag, particularly for a fancy travel makeup bag, I would have preferred a fold out wallet with inserts to store the brushes in to keep them better protected. I feel that they just pile on top of each other and move around in the bag which slightly worries me that the bristles may get bent or tattered around the edges.

Now onto the brushes themselves, aesthetically these brushes are the bomb diggity! With their beautiful smooth brown handles and rose gold hardware, they sit so pretty upon my vanity. They also feel expensive with the smooth handle, cool sturdy ferrules and the incredibly soft bristles that you can’t wait to glide and stroke across your face. The kit comes with both, high quality natural hair and synthetic taklon bristles, so it can be used with cream and powder based products.

There are 8 brushes all together each having a different specific purpose and with its number and ‘job’ written on the side. I was particularly pleased with this as even though I don’t always use the brushes for the purpose they specify they are made for, I don’t mind having a little guidance! Below I have included the brush numbers with the specified purposes and then what I intend to use them for if it differs, with overall impressions of the brush.

102 Silk Finish – I use this for the application of liquid foundations as is suggested. This brush has fairly dense sturdy bristles which are lovely and soft forming a slightly domed shape. I found the first couple of times I used this brush it just soaked up the product and didn’t give an even application of the foundation and left my face patchy which was a little disappointing. However now its been used a few times it works great, dispenses the product evenly all over my face, buffs it nicely into my skin and can be used for light to full coverage foundations.

106 Powder – This brush is for powder however as I rarely set my foundation with powder, preferring to use this brush for bronzer. It has fairly long bristles forming a loose tapered dome shape which allow the brush to gently glide over your skin. It allows me to achieve a natural and light bronzed look, however if I were wanting to contour my face this would not achieve the look as it is not dense enough. I do think if I were to apply powder this brush would be perfect for that purpose too.

127 Luxe Sheer Cheek – For applying powder blush. angled with soft bristles the shape makes for perfect blush application allowing the majority of product to be put on the apples of the cheeks. The only complaint I have about this brush is that it arrived with some of the bristles already bent and for the price I expected perfection.

110 Face Shape – This is for contouring and thats exactly what I use it for. Small with short dense soft bristles allows for lots of product to be picked up and for it to be concentrated in one area, as it is small it is good for getting in the hollows of the cheeks and other areas that you contour.

142 Concealer Buffer – For applying/buffing out concealer. It has a small head full of compacted bristles forming a dome shape which make it dense and sturdy enough for buffing product into the skin. I have fairly small eyes that are slightly inset and find smaller concealer brushes better and easier to use. I do also like this for highlighting  and defining under the brow too.

227 Luxe Soft Definer – Made to blend eye shadow. This brush has slightly wispy bristles, loosely put together for a softer brush, however it isn’t flimsy at all. It is great for blending and creating beautiful smokey eyes and I have found you don’t have to spend ages blending the same areas.

231 Luxe Petit Crease – This brush is for the crease of your eye where you may want heavier colour and definition. Its bristles are compacted tighter to make it more dense than the blending brush and it is pointed so that it gets right into the crease of your eye. I however like to use it to blend out eyeliner as it is tough enough to soften pencil liner to create a softer look.

317 Wing Liner – Exactly what it says on the tin, for your winged liner! It is very angled and at first as I don’t tend to wear gel liner, I thought I would use it to apply eyebrow powder, however because it is so angled it was the wrong shape, so I use it for lining my eyes with powder. As it is thin it allows for a very precise, neat line and helps you create the perfect wing.

I really can’t speak highly enough of the set and feel a bit of brush envy every time I crack them out in front of my friends. These brushes are definitely worth the investment and I would recommend any beauty lover give them a go and treat yourself – you won’t be disappointed.

XO Emma.
